That makes Irish the USA's second most frequently reported ancestry after German. A large number of U.S. citizens travel to the land of their forefathers every year on holiday or on business. There is also a sizeable U.S. expatriate community in Ireland, particularly around Dublin with its large number of offices by U.S. owned or operated companies. The U.S. Embassy in Dublin provides an extensive range of services to American tourists and expats as well as dealing with visa requests and other queries from Irish residents.

U.S. Visas
The Visa Unit of the American Embassy's Consular Section provides a full range of services related to Immigrant and Non-immigrant U.S. visas. The U.S. Embassy in Dublin deals with all types of U.S. visas including Business (B-1), Visitor (B-2), Student (F & M), Exchange Visitor (J-1) visas and temporary work permits. Due to the biometric processing involved, it takes approximately three working days for a visa to be issued.

Information on U.S. visas is available via a premium rate phone line service only. Callers from within Ireland should dial 1580 47 8472. Calls to this line are charged at €2.40 per minute from landlines. Calls from mobiles may incur a surcharge from your network operator. A separate, credit card only line is open to callers from Ireland and abroad. The number is +353 (01) 436 0536 and calls to this number cost €16.00, payable by Visa or Mastercard, plus the relevant international call charges. Services For U.S. Citizens
The American Citizen Services Unit (ACS) of the Consular Section provides a full-range of passport and citizenship services. The ACS at the American Embassy issues birth and death certificates and provides a variety of notarial and authentication services. ACS also provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Dublin. The ACS operates an on-line appointment system to reduce your waiting time at the Embassy. Please refer to the embassy's website for more detail. The ACS also provides information to U.S. expatriates living in Ireland on a wide range of topics from tax issues to medical services and employment. If you are a U.S. citizen and would like to receive information issued by the U.S. Department of State and the Embassy in Dublin, you can register online for the duration of your stay in Ireland. You will receive all Embassy bulletins and warden messages automatically to your registered e-mail address.

Security at the Embassy
For security reasons, you are not allowed to bring luggage including large backpacks, laptop computers or large cameras into the American Embassy. Security guards at the gate will store small cameras and cell phones until which can be collected when you leave the embassy. Please note that there is no storage available for other items.

Opening Hours
The U.S. Embassy is open for telephone enquiries Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 to 18:30. Personal visits are by scheduled appointment only. The embassy is closed on both Irish and U.S. public holidays.

Consular Section
The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Dublin is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 11:30. The Consular Section is closed on Wednesdays, except for cases of extreme emergency.

How To Get To The U.S. Embassy Dublin
The Embassy is located at 42 Elgin Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. The main entrance is at the intersection of Elgin and Pembroke Road. The American embassy in Dublin is well connected by bus. Dublin bus routes 4, 5, 7, 7A, 8, 45, 63 or 84 all go past the embassy. Ask the driver to give you a shout when your stop comes up. The nearest DART stop is Landsdowne Road Turn left upon leaving the station and walk through Landsdowne Road to the traffic lights turn left again onto Pembroke Road. Please note that there are no car parking spaces available for visitors at the embassy. You can avail of paid on-street parking on nearby Elgin Road, Clyde Road, Raglan Road or in Herbert Park.
